The village of Gorska Polyana is situated in the south-western part of Bulgaria, favourably nested at the foot of Strandja mountain. The nearest settlement to the village is the municipal town of Bolyarovo. About 37 km away from the village is located the town of Elhovo – one of the most sought after regions among foreigners. The town of Yambol is approximately 60 km away; the coastal town of Burgas is within 70 km away. A definite advantage of the location of Gorska Polyana is its proximity to the Bulgarian – Turkish boundary (only 8 km). The villages adjacent which have common boundaries with the village of Gorska Polyana are: Valchi Izvor (3 km), Rujitsa (7km); the villages of Momina Tsarkva (7 km) and Fakiya (15 km) are situated in the North of Gorska Polyana; in the South of the hamlet is disposed the village of Voden and an artificial lake called “Malko Sharkovo” (6 km); in the East of Gorska Polyana is located the village of Strandja (9km). The place, where the village of Gorska Polyana is currently lying used to be a thick centuries - old forest. Nowadays it is a gently sloping hollow surrounded by slanting hills; in the west of the village is the “Goliya Bair”; in the north – the “Injili Bair” a treeless hill, as in the north the village is 'protected' by the ' Inzhili bair', whose name is historically connected to the name of Indzhe voyvoda, / a national Bulgarian hero dating back the time of the Osman invasion/ and in the East - the “Ivanchova Koriya” and other small hills. The lands surrounding the village of Gorska Polyana – fields, forests, pastures, extend to 40, 873, 000 sq. m. The Strandja mountain, at the foot of which the village is huddled in , is named after the old denomination of the area - “Strajitsa” which means “border land”, passage between two continents – Asia and Europe. The Strandja mountain has not been just a political boundary for Bulgaria for centuries but it is also a “nature” boundary regarding climate, soils, waters, flora and fauna in the southeast part of Balkan peninsula. The highest peak of the Strandja mountain (1031 m) called “Mahida” is in Turkey. The highest top in Bulgaria is “Kervan Sarai” (632 m) and is located about 10 km away from the village of Gorska Polyana. The Strandja mountain forms not only the climate of Gorska Polyana but also the climate of south-east Bulgaria. - transcontinental with Mediterranean influence. This area benefits from its soft climate and healthy air suitable for recreation. The area features a large number of small but crystally clear rivers and springs. Having tested the water samples in this area, including the so-called 'Shopova' spring in the village of Gorska Polyana, the indexes were determined as of very high quality. A river called “The Big River”, which is one of the longest springs of “Popovska” river, as well as three other smaller rivers pass through the village. An artificial lake called “Malko Sharkovo” and a number of smaller dams suitable for fishing and recreation are located within an easy access to the village of Gorska Polyana. It would take you about 30-40 minutes driving to get to the village of Stefan Karadjovo famous for its mineral springs. The village of Gorska Polyana is of rich history hamlet. It was settled down about three or four centuries ago and like other settlements it has experienced a number of ups and downs . The migration has affected the development of the village – in 1946 the inhabitants of the village were 1274, today the residents count to 100-160. In the centre of the village are located the Municipality, a Post office, a church, a commercial building – a grocery, a restaurant a cafe, The roads in the village are asphalt; there are highways leading to the adjacent towns and villages. The village of Gorska Polyana is a splendid, ecologically clean place suitable for the developing of “rural tourism”, hunting or fishing. It boasts of its well-preserved pure nature giving the unique opportunity for having a complete recreation and relaxation. Located in proximity to the Black sea coast, the Airport of Sarafovo, the mineral springs of Stefan Karadjovo and also the perspective for the retrieving of the Tourist's Check point in the village of Strandja (9 km away) makes the village of Gorska Polyana like one of those heavenly places, where one would like to spend all his life.
